Bryan Michael Gates, age 46, of Janesville died unexpectedly at his home on Saturday, May 13, 2017. He was born on October 24, 1970 in Janesville, the son of Michael and Patricia (Wood) Gates. Bryan graduated from Craig High School in 1989 and then served in the U. S. Army from September 5, 1989 to September 7, 1990. Bryan attended Manatee County Police Academy in Florida and later  graduated from Blackhawk Technical College with a degree in police science. He married Kari Kerchoff on April 20, 1996. He was formerly employed by Lear Seating, by the Rock County Juvenile Detention Center and JMB Security. He formerly served as an auxiliary officer for the Beloit Police Department. Bryan was presently employed by Trierweiler Construction Company of Marshfield, WI. Bryan loved music, baseball, watching the Packers and Badgers and shared his son’s love for Nike’s shoes. He also enjoyed coaching his son’s JYBSA team.

Bryan is survived by his son, Caleb Gates of Janesville, his parents, Mike and Pat Gates of Janesville, his brother, Brad (Becky Barnett) Gates of Fort Wayne, IN, his former wife, Kari Gates of Janesville, his special friend, Andrea Bowers, his grandfather, Leo Gates of Edgerton along with several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by grandparents, Lisle and Georgia Wood, Cory Gates and his uncle, Steve Gates.

A  visitation will be held from Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, 1010 North Wright Road, Janesville with a time for sharing at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family
